OUR STORY

After running our bathroom showroom and design service in Cheshire for almost 30 years, in 2019 we took the decision to sell up and move to Herefordshire to fulfil our dream of renovating an old property and setting up a luxury B&B.

After viewing many properties it was always Montpelier Cottage that we were drawn to, inspired by the quirky and original Cob House and the four acres of gardens and wild meadows. As designers we could see the potential that the 200 year old Montpelier Cottage and little Cob house had to offer.

We moved to Brilley in Spring 2019 and work began immediately to make our cottage habitable (it had been left empty for some time.) Once we had installed a new kitchen and bathroom work could begin restoring The Cob.

As The Cob is built of straw and lime render – something that was new to us – we sourced specialist paint and began the task of painting the outside. We then installed a new en-suite, scrubbed, cleaned, painted and fitted electric radiators and a wood burner.

While renovating the buildings we also had the mammoth task of clearing large areas of the land which had become totally overgrown.  The vegetable patch, which you can see from the bedroom window was 6ft. high in weeds, as was the orchard beyond. It was so exciting for us to discover apple, pear, plum, cherry and damson trees. Hopefully with careful pruning we will succeed in getting a good harvest from these trees this year.

Montpelier Cottage is such a special place – we hope you will enjoy the peace and tranquility it has to offer. Please feel free to wander around the grounds listening to the birdsong and becoming aware of the nature all around. You will probably meet Buddy, our friendly and bouncy Cockerpoo running through the meadows.

At last we have finished the renovation work on our cottage.  In lockdowns we managed to keep ourselves busy painting the outside of the cottage which was many shades of yellow.  We have recently replaced the old conservatory with a  garden room whose large windows give us fantastic views over the garden and meadows. It has taken us three years to create the home we dreamed of when we moved in, and now we are concentrating all  our efforts on further work in the gardens.

We have just celebrated our fifth anniversary  here and whatever the season, whatever the weather we enjoy every moment of living in this special place and hope you will be as amazed as we are by this beautiful area.
